Shankaracharya Majyotish Peeth, Swami Avimukteshwaranand on Wednesday asked the central and state governments not to interfere in the management and religious affairs of Hindu temples across the country. He said that the Dharmacharyas should be allowed to independently monitor the activities of all the temples. Talking to reporters, Swami Avimuktaswarananda said that governments should refrain from interfering in the management of Hindu temples and religious affairs like bhog, puja and festivals etc.

He also expressed concern over the controversy over adulteration of ghee laddus at the Tirupati Balaji temple in Andhra Pradesh. He said, what’s going on? Pointing to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led government, he said it was not appropriate to interfere in the management of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

He said that governments who have taken the oath of secularism should not interfere in the management of Hindu religious places. Swami Avimukteshwaranand said, how can a government that takes the oath of secularism take over the management of Hindu religious places? After the Lado controversy, this work should be left to the religious leaders. He said these things during his two-day visit to Sikkim.

Criticizing the central government, he said the cow is seen as an animal, while Hindu devotees see her as a mother and worship her. According to him, since this government came to power, the cow has become an animal. He also mentioned traveling across the country to spread awareness about cow safety. He said it is an integral part of Hindu culture and tradition, which the present and future generations should be aware of.
