Kier Construction is seeking consent to renovate Bay House School and Sixth Form in Gomer Lane, Gosport, by restoring badly worn stone and repairing damaged windows.
It also plans to replace “unserviceable” windows and doors as well as install new electrical accessories.
The design and approach statement accompanying the request reads: “The current school was built in 1838 and requires significant structural work and interior renovation.
“While the buildings were originally developed for school use, education and the way students learn has changed significantly.
“The layout and spaces no longer fit the modern teaching standards of a 21st century school and sixth form.
“This application seeks to renovate an existing school building in order to improve the internal environment and improve the structure of the building through sensitive and sympathetic repairs.”

The plan is part of a comprehensive plan to transform the entire site, which overlooks the northern end of Stokes Bay.
Run by Gosport and Fareham Multi Academy Trust, Bay House has 2,300 pupils aged 11-18.
In preparation for D-Day, the 79th Armored Division operated from the site and used the area for tests of amphibious Sherman tanks.
Troops prepare to take part in protected landings in the nearby forest for boarding.
The plans to renovate Bay House are outlined in a public notice published by Gosport Borough Council, which will decide on the application.

Derby Road will be closed between its junctions with Alfred Street and Lower Alfred Street from July 14 for SSEN works. The works should be completed by July 15.
