GMDA begins repair work on the Lachit Nagar pedestrian bridge after several complaints Achi-News

Guwahati: After many complaints from residents about the condition of the footbridge at Balchith Nagar, the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has started repair work on the structure.

Locals have raised concerns about the bridge being dirty and often used by drug addicts, creating a dangerous environment for pedestrians.

Speaking to GPlus, a GMDA official confirmed that the renovation work started on September 16. "The repair works are only carried out at night, so it will take some time to finish," explained the clerk. "We expect the project to be completed by the end of October."

The official also mentioned that a budget of 4,000,000 was allocated for the renovation, which aims to restore the safety and cleanliness of the bridge to the public.

He further explained, "The situation with the railings was worrying. We discovered that drug addicts had cut the railings with blades, making the bridge unsafe for pedestrians. As part of the regular repair work, we not only replace the damaged railings but also ensure that they are safer to prevent such incidents in the future."
