Giriraj Singh hands over Pashmina wool GI certificate to LG Ladakh – The Kashmir Monitor Achi-News

Leh, October 5: Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh today handed over the Geographical designation (GI) certificate of Pashmina wool to Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Dr BD Mishra at Raj Niwas Leh.

Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to achieving new standards of development in the Union Territory. He said that the government has undertaken several projects and initiatives for the welfare of the people in the entire Ladakh region.

He said that the GI tag of Pashmina wool is going to maintain the authenticity standards, adding that this step will be beneficial for the people associated with this field. He also pointed out that the government aims to achieve a target of 500,000 Pashmina goats and 1 million Merino sheep in the Union Territory by 2030.

The Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Prajakta Verma, Secretary of the Textiles Committee, Kartikay Dhanda, adviser to LG, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
