A male teenager has been left perplexed by a film where a man faces challenges such as fist fights which are traditionally left to female characters.

Josh Hudson was watching Amazon’s remake of the 1980s action film House Roadwhere a professional bouncer in a roadside bar defeats several opponents despite not being a woman.

Hudson said: “I was amazed when Dalton, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, takes a six-foot rider and punches him to the ground. Only a light, 5’2” woman should be able to do that.

“In all the movies I’ve seen, be it Atomic Blonde or Rebel Moon, women do all the fighting, so it was a very refreshing reversal of gender roles. It’s about time movies showed that a man can be a badass too.

“Obviously a man wouldn’t stand a chance against a woman. My friend Lee who I was watching it with says that men don’t have a small enough body mass to win a fight, but I think if they had martial arts training that could give them an advantage.

“One thing I didn’t like about it House Road was that the female characters were not immediately good at everything and that the man was not completely useless, and he is mocked and ridiculed for that. I thought that was a little too unrealistic.

“However, it gave me great strength. It has given me the confidence to follow my dreams and become a fighter pilot instead of a childcare assistant. I don’t care if flying a Typhoon bomber is ‘a woman’s job’.”
