Flipkart’s Big Day Billion Sales: The Bengaluru-based company has not only removed its ‘abuse, misogynist’ ad after a massive backlash but also apologized for it.
Flipkart’s Big Billion Days Sale went live on Friday, September 27, but the run-up to the event was marred by controversy. The Bengaluru-based company promoted the sale through an advertisement referring to husbands as “aalsi, kambakkht, and bewakoof”. Soon, the Internet began bashing the Walmart-owned company left and right for what they called a “misandrist” and “toxic” ad. In response, the e-commerce giant removed the controversial ad and apologized for it, adding that they will do “better in the future”.

The animated ad aimed to offer women clever tips on how to order and stash handbags off Flipkart without their husbands finding out. Although the concept related to the sale of the ‘Big Billion Days’ seems innocent, the issue arose when the narrator described men as “aalsi, kambakkht, and bewakoof,” and even suggested how women can hide their “friend special” who visited while their husbands were away.

After the massive backlash, Flipkart said, “We apologize for the offending video that was posted in error, and it was taken down as soon as we realized our mistake. We will do better in the future.”
