Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani on Wednesday welcomed the Calcutta High Court’s order for a CBI probe into allegations of crimes against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. According to him, this is the first step towards providing justice to the victims. The High Court said the investigation would be monitored by it, directed the CBI to scrutinize the revenue records, inspect the land and then submit a business report on the alleged illegal conversion of agricultural land into water bodies for fish farming.

While talking to reporters, Smriti Irani said that I wholeheartedly welcome the court order. This is the first step towards providing justice to Sandashkali women and the poor and victims. Irani claimed that TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was not defending the constitution but the Sheikh of Shahjahan. He said that now he will have to answer to the people of the state.
BJP will help victims till they get justice – Irani
Smriti Irani said that I want to express my gratitude for the court’s decision. He expressed confidence that the West Bengal unit of the BJP would help in doing justice to the victims of the Sandeshkhali case. Nearly 600 complaints in the form of affidavits were filed by petitioner-lawyer Priyanka Tiberwell before the Calcutta High Court alleging sexual harassment, land grabbing, assault and destruction of property among other crimes.
