The Assamese film industry has been quite consistently successful in producing beautiful quality films and it is a pleasure to see it flourish.

However, I recently watched a brilliant film “Eti Tomer”, directed by Parvez Ahmed, under the banner of “Red River Fund” and “Monsoon Screenplay Entertainment”. The movie was released in theaters recently to good response from the audience, and was loved by everyone who watched it.

Eti Tomer is a love story between Amr and Manasi, childhood sweethearts, who did not marry because of the objections faced by Manasi’s mother due to the class differences between them.
Their love story is told over three generations, each of them written by three different actors and actresses in the roles of Amr and Manasi.
Amr was a brilliant student in a poverty-stricken family, who survived the tragic end of his family.
He is very successful in his life due to his hard work and academic brilliance, and later comes and settles in the USA, after being rejected by Mansi’s mother for his proposal to marry her.
He marries and settles in the USA with adult daughters.
However, his heart longs for Manasi, and he returns to his birthplace in search of his childhood love Manasi, with the full knowledge of his current wife.
Amar, now in his seventies, by Arun Nath, and Manasi, a few years younger than him, by Lipika Bora Medhi, find themselves inseparable and drawn to each other again.
Important roles are also played by Anupam Kaushik, Drathi Bhardwaj, Malaya Goswami, Narmada Das, Manisha Hazarika, Dr Akashitora, Dr Jayanta Das, Barenya Borah, and Harshad D Kashyap among others.
However, the music seems to be influenced by the 2005 Hindi film Parineeta.
Cinematography is by Rupam Jyoti Saikia while Drovjit Kalita has done a commendable job as editor. Anupam Jerika is the executive producer of the film. For Assamese film connoisseurs, this is a must watch.
