San Francisco: An email. That’s how thousands of workers got jobs. Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX, announced the layoffs shortly after Twitter acquired the company. On Friday, that speculation came true. Half of Twitter’s 7,500 employees were laid off overnight. However, Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, has no regrets about cutting so many workers at once. “When the company is losing more than $4 million a day, there is no other option but to lay off workers,” he tweeted.

News agency AFP reported on Friday that Twitter has cut 50 percent of its workforce. From today, the evicted workers will not be able to enter the office. There will be no access to the office computer and email. Not only America, Twitter has offices in different countries, workers have been laid off from every office.

Meanwhile, the owner of the company, Elon Musk, tweeted as protests and criticism started over the layoffs. On Friday afternoon, he tweeted, “Twitter performance reduction is under discussion. When the company is losing more than $4 million a day, unfortunately there is no other way.”

All of Twitter’s employees were notified before the layoffs. Twitter’s office was shut down on Friday morning. Employees are informed not to come to the office. Those who were on their way to the office or had reached it, were also asked to go back. Later, shortly before 9:30 p.m., the email reached Twitter staff. It is reported who has a job and who has become unemployed.

Twitter employees, who did not wish to be named, said the company was being treated in a highly inhumane manner. Hundreds of thousands of workers were laid off overnight to save money.
