New Delhi: There is no connection between the issuing of electoral bonds and action by the central body against multiple bodies. Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh made it clear in an interview given to News18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi on Friday, rejecting the claims of opponents. In his words, “The future will tell what happens now. Time will tell how well we have done by bringing electoral bonds.”

On February 15, the Supreme Court ordered the electoral bond. A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on Thursday declared the electoral bond scheme ‘unconstitutional’. So ‘it should be empty’. In the hearing on Thursday, the Supreme Court said that the electoral bond violates the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Besides questioning the transparency of electoral bonds, the Chief Justice said that the State Bank of India (SBI) would stop issuing such bonds. The bank authorities will provide all information to the National Electoral Commission regarding donations received through electoral bonds.

In this context, Rajnath Singh raised the question, “Which organization has donated to which party, should that information be published?” Later it is also said, who voted for which party, should also be brought forward. Will you accept it? Any country where democracy is healthy, that country will accept it? Who votes for whom, which party votes, can it also be brought before everyone?”

Incidentally, the late Arun Jaitley issued electoral bonds in 2018 when he was the Union Finance Minister. The Modi government introduced electoral bonds from 2018 by bringing a series of amendments in the law through the Finance Bill 2017. As a result, if an individual or a corporate body wants to donate to political parties, they have to buy bonds and give them to the relevant party. 1 thousand, 10 thousand, 1 lakh, 10 lakh and 1 crore bonds are available. Political parties can redeem the bonds in specified accounts. But who gives how much money, it cannot be understood.
