Ec asks Cbdt to verify details of Rajeev Chandrasekhars poll affidavit following Congress complaint – Amar Ujala Hindi News Live Achi-News

The Election Commission on Tuesday directed the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to probe irregularities in the affidavit filed by Union minister and BJP’s Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat candidate Rajiv Chandrashekhar. The Congress has alleged irregularities in actual and declared assets in the affidavit filed by Chandrashekhar and the party has moved the poll panel to probe it.

Let us tell you that Chandrashekhar is pitted against Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram. In accordance with the procedure, the Election Commission ordered to investigate the irregularities in the affidavit submitted by Chandrashekhar. The committee said that any kind of discrepancy and fraud in the affidavit is dealt with under Section 125A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. According to the rules, concealing any information in the nomination form or in the affidavit can be punished with imprisonment of up to six months or fine or both.

Chandrashekhar property details

BJP leader and Union Minister for Information and Technology (IT) Rajiv Chandrashekhar has declared assets worth more than Rs 28 crore. In an affidavit filed with the nomination papers, Chandrashekhar listed the total value of movable assets as Rs 13,69,18,637, while his wife has assets worth Rs 12,47,00,408. It also includes details of cash held, deposits in banks, non-bank financial companies and cooperative societies, as well as investments in bonds, debentures, stocks, companies/mutual funds and other financial entities. The movable assets also include a 1942 ‘Red Indian Scout’ model, registered in Karnataka. Along with this, he also has jewellery, bullion and other valuables worth more than Rs 3.25 crore.

Chandrashekhar’s immovable assets include self-purchased properties at a cost of Rs 5,26,42,640, the current market value of which would be Rs 14,40,00,000. He also has liabilities of Rs 19,41,92,894, about which there are disputes. His wife has liabilities of Rs 1,63,43,972 which includes loans from banks, financial institutions and others. In the 2022-23 income tax return, Chandrashekhar’s total income was reported as Rs 5,59,200, which was Rs 680 in 2021-22.
