Air India is an airline of Tata Group.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 80 lakh on Air India. This fine has been imposed for a breach of rules relating to Flight Duty Time Limits (FDTL) and Fatigue Management System (FMS).

DGCA had conducted an unannounced inspection of Air India in January to see if it was complying with FDTL and FMS rules to ensure a high level of safety. During the inspection, DGCA found that the company was operating flights contrary to rules.

He operated flights with both flight crews over the age of 60
The DGCA said that an analysis of reports and evidence reveals that in some cases Air India operates flights with both flight crew above 60 years of age, which violates sub-rule (2) of Rule 28A of the Aircraft Rules, 1937 .There is a cross.

The crew were not given enough rest, and training records were also incorrectly stated
It was also found that there was a lack of adequate weekly rest, adequate rest before and after very long range (ULR) flights and the provision of adequate rest for flight crew on temporary conversion. Apart from this, there were also cases of wrongly marked training records etc.

Fine imposed on answer to show cause notice
DGCA said a show cause notice has been issued to Air India to file its reply on March 1, 2024. The aviation regulator found its response unsatisfactory.

Earlier in January too, DGCA had imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 crore on Air India for security breach. This fine was imposed after a fault was found in the ’12 Minute Chemical Passenger Oxygen System’.

Action was taken on an airline employee’s complaint
DGCA had received a complaint from an airline employee in October. It has been reported that safety rules are being violated in the flights operated by Air India between Mumbai / Bengaluru-San Francisco using Boeing B777 aircraft. It was also stated in the complaint that this has been happening since November 2022.

Based on the complaint, the air traffic controller inspected the ’12 Minute Chemical Passenger Oxygen System’ of Air India planes. Oxygen systems can produce oxygen for about 12-15 minutes in the plane. In an emergency, pilots can bring the aircraft to a lower altitude in this time, where additional oxygen is not required.
