Margalla National Park is a blessing but the structure of its beauty is in danger, thanks to the carelessness of the visitors.

Domestic Tourism has its own blessings in boosting the local business and off the course while enhancing and expanding the warmth and vitality of the visitor’s soul. But at the same time our reckless and irresponsible behavior has literally stripped away the beauty and tranquility of our tourist spots. At the end of the day we are the looser, for sure.

Visit anywhere, Murree, Naran or Swat and you will discover how terribly our domestic tourists have damaged the environment of such beautiful and gifted places by God. Lots of rubbish will welcome you. The disposable products introduced in the mid 50’s may have brought some kind of comfort to the people but it has a harmful effect on the environment.

The friend and the groups of friends and students visit such people and leave tons of plastic and disposable products without getting any mortification or shame. Every day our home spreads tons of waste in the form of Cigarette butts, Food wrappers, plastic bottles, disposable cups, grocery bags, Straws, drink cans and other material.

The beauty of our tourist destinations has been horribly challenged by our people. the population is increasing and we produce 54,888 tonnes of solid waste per day. We are addicted to the same attitude when visiting tourist spots. Instead, our carelessness multiplies.

Only in Murree, during the peak season, it is estimated that the solid waste produced is 850 tonnes per day. Now imagine if 850 tonnes of waste were dumped in Murree every day what would be the result in the very near future?

This is not just a Murree story. All of our tourist destinations are about to be similarly dispossessed. Streams of clean water have been turned into gutters and dustbins. Charming valleys are polluted to the extent that they literally stink in high season.

And what to talk about these destinations even the Routes Islamabad, relatively not common for the visitors, also facing the same problem. It is very scary to visit one of the most beautiful Route 5 as it has been treated cruelly by the visitors. The plastic waste, Food wrappers, plastic bottles, disposable cups, grocery bags, Straws, drink cans can be found in the jungle and even in the stream.

Perhaps we have no aesthetic sense and are ignorant of environmental ethics. This litter affects birds and animals every day. If you visit the seafront in Karachi you will see that the shore is grappling with the same problem. It is estimated that “that over a million animals die every year after ingesting, or getting caught in, improperly disposed litter. Plastic litter is the most common killer of animals, and marine animals are the most affected. Every year over 100,000 dolphins, fish, whales, turtles, and more drown after ingesting or digesting plastic trash”.

I wish I could understand.
