Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said India has an unwavering determination to adhere to the rules-based international order, respect for international law and the principles enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. According to him, India has consistently supported the peaceful resolution of conflicts and promoted cooperation between countries in the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing the centrality of ASEAN in promoting regional dialogue, stability and collective development.
“India’s interests are not against any other country”
Addressing the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue (IPRD) 2024 event, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed concern over some efforts to monopolize and weaponize essential resources for strategic reasons and called these trends detrimental to global well-being. The defense minister said that India’s efforts for maritime cooperation are continuing. India’s interests are not in conflict with those of any other country. The interests of any nation should not conflict with those of other nations. In this spirit we must work together.
India’s vision for the Indo-Pacific is based on “SAGAR”
In a statement published by the Ministry of Defense it was said that India’s vision for the Indo-Pacific region is based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concept of ‘SAGAR’ (Security and Development for the entire region), because we want such a partnership and believe in promoting a global economy that gives priority to sustainable development, economic growth and security mutual. Rajnath Singh further said that India has consistently supported the peaceful resolution of conflicts and promoted cooperation between countries in the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing the centrality of ASEAN in promoting regional dialogue, stability and collective development.
The Defense Minister said that the Indian Armed Forces, especially the Navy, are at the forefront of cooperation with the countries of the region, and are constantly working to build its capacity and capabilities. According to him, the rapidly evolving global maritime landscape is shaped by changing dynamics, resource competition and emerging security threats. According to him, the emergence of the ‘Indo-Pacific Theater’ reflects the global balance of power. Singh said the Indo-Pacific region has emerged as the most dynamic geopolitical region in the world and has become the center of gravity of economic and strategic interests.
