North East Frontier Railway (NFR) has arranged to operate 13 pairs or 26 special trains in view of increase in passenger traffic during the upcoming festive season. On the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhat Puja festivals between October 1 and November 30, 2024, these trains will deal with passenger overcrowding and smoothen the travel experience. The itinerary of these special trains will include Amritsar, Bangalore, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Kolkata, Anand Vihar, Sri Ganganagar etc. as well as other important destinations.

Utsav Special Trains will improve connectivity between the zone and other nearby areas including Agartala, Nahralgun, Silchar, New Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Katihar etc. Northeast Frontier Railway will operate 238 journeys of special trains during the Christmas season this year. The current year 2024 has almost doubled the number of trains and journeys booked and operated during the same period last Christmas.

It is worth mentioning here that millions of travelers travel across the country during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhat festivals. Therefore the operation of special trains has increased significantly during this period, thus providing seats for more passengers and reducing the number of passengers on the waiting list. These special trains will ensure that ordinary people can celebrate the festival with their loved ones throughout the next two months. Indian Railways operated a total of 4429 Utsav Special trains in 2023, ensuring a comfortable travel experience for millions of passengers.

Feet in the home before puja

Every year a large number of people from different parts of the country travel to the eastern and northern parts of the country like West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhat Puja. For ordinary people these holidays not only have religious significance but they are also an important opportunity to reunite with family members. Due to heavy rush of passengers during the festival, most trains have a waiting list of two to three months in advance for passenger tickets. To solve this problem, Indian Railways is once again running special trains during the festive season this year.
