Ministry of Health sources have said that polio virus has been confirmed in environmental samples from 8 cities of the country.
The virus has been confirmed in 12 samples of sewage from 8 cities across the country, wild poliovirus 1, YBA cluster 3 was found in the sewage.
Sources say that polio virus was found in the sewage of Karachi, Quetta, Awsta Muhammad, Sabi, while the sewage of Peshawar, Mastung, Naseerabad, Kohat also tested positive for polio.
Samples were taken for polio testing from 8 cities in Pakistan between March 14 and 19, this year 93 samples from 31 areas have become positive.

Polio was found in the sewage of Karachi East, South, Korangi. This year, 13 and 6 samples came positive from Karachi East. Karachi faeces virus is genetically endemic.
Apart from this, polio virus was detected for the first time in the sewage of Awsta Muhammad, the sewage virus of Awsta Muhammad is genetically related to Quetta, this year 12 samples of Quetta sewage have turned out to be polio positive.
Sources say that polio virus was found in the sewage of Shaheen Muslim Town, Peshawar Polio virus was confirmed in 9 samples from Peshawar this year.
Polio virus is spreading locally in Peshawar sewage, two cases of polio virus have been reported in the country this year.
