Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of lying. According to Siddramaiah, the union minister lied that the drought relief fund was not released due to the implementation of the code of conduct. The Prime Minister said that the state submitted the drought relief memorandum in December itself. He regretted that though Karnataka has the second highest tax collection in the country, relief funds were not released to the state by the central government. He also said that Narendra Modi has been the Prime Minister for 10 years. Has he done anything for Bengaluru?

“The central government tells lies”

In fact, Siddaramaiah was addressing the people during the election campaign of Bengaluru North Lok Sabha Congress candidate Professor MV Rajeev Gowda. During this he said these things. Referring to the BJP, he said that Rs 4.30 lakh crore goes to the center as tax from Karnataka and when we ask for funds for drought relief, we are lied to by the central government. The prime minister said that in December we asked for a relief amount. However, not a single rupee has been released for drought relief in Karnataka. Is this not injustice to the people of Karnataka?

What did Nirmala Sitharaman say?

On Saturday, the union minister said that the processes of releasing the funds took time until the code of conduct was implemented. He said that a memorandum was submitted by the Karnataka government and after evaluation by the central team, several procedures had to be followed to release the drought relief, which took time. According to the finance minister, central officials wrote a letter to the election committee on March 28 and asked for prior approval to convene a high-level committee. Sitharaman said that the model code of conduct is in force and approval of the Election Commission in this regard is awaited.

DK Shivakumar also attacked the Union Minister

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also hit out at Sitharaman, saying the Karnataka government filed the appeal for drought relief four months ago and there was no model code of conduct at that time. According to him, the Union Minister is now presenting the excuse of a code of conduct. He said that ‘this justifies Suresh Shivakumar’s ‘Our Tax, Our Rights’ campaign. Let us tell you that Suresh Shivakumar is a three time MP and brother of DK Shivakumar. He is contesting from Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha constituency.
