New Delhi: Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar on Tuesday said that China still poses a “potent challenge” on the border and that the creation of terrorism is a major security threat to the country.

The Naval Commander Admiral said that China is a formidable challenger in this regard and is continuously increasing its presence not only on land but also in maritime borders.

“China is a formidable challenger and has increased its presence not only along our land borders but also in the maritime domain by enhancing anti-piracy measures to normalize its naval presence in the Indian Ocean region,” Kumar said.

Kumar added that a war with potential adversaries cannot be ruled out without turning into armed action. “While the competition is being conducted on a daily basis, a war with potential adversaries can never be ruled out, which will sometimes test the limits, but without escalating into armed action,” said the naval chief admiral.

The Navy Chief Admiral said Pakistan is continuing to modernize its military despite economic constraints. “Despite economic sanctions in the West, Pakistan continues to modernize its military, especially its navy, which is on track to become a 50-base force,” said the naval chief admiral.

Kumar also said that in addition to the existing military challenges, terrorism is still a major security threat. “While these conventional military challenges persist, terrorism remains a major security threat as it continues to evolve in shape, size and scale.

“Staying one step ahead of such an invisible adversary, who is constantly inventing tactics, powered by key technologies, is a challenge,” Kumar said.
