The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed the third chargesheet in the alleged leak of the National Eligibility Test with Undergraduate Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2024. Officials said on Saturday that the CBI has named 21 people as accused in the chargesheet filed in the special court of CBI in Patna.

The agency claimed that the trunk containing the question papers of NEET-UG 2024 was delivered to Oasis School in Hazaribagh and stored in a control room on the morning of May 5. The CBI alleges that school principal Ahsanul Haq and vice principal Imtiaz Alam allowed “mastermind” Pankaj Kumar to enter the control room soon after the trunk arrived. Haq and Alam have already been charged in this case.

Pankaj Kumar, a 2017 civil engineer from the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur, used sophisticated equipment to open the trunk and access the question papers, the investigating agency said. CBI also seized these devices along with CCTV footage from the room.

On the morning of the exam, a group of seven MBBS students from AIMS Patna, RIMS Ranchi and Bharatpur Medical College solved the Hazaribagh paper. The agency then arrested the alleged solvers.

A CBI spokesperson said, ‘The declassified document is shared with selected students who paid money to the accused. Most of the solvers were identified and arrested. He was specially brought to Hazaribagh as part of the plot.

During the investigation, other gang members were also located who helped Kumar and led to several arrests. “This group was supported by persons who provided accommodation to the candidates, while others facilitated their transportation,” the CBI said in a statement. “Efforts are being made to trace the candidates who accessed the solved question papers and necessary actions are being taken.”
