Kolkata : Another encounter took place between BSF troops and cattle smugglers at the Indo-Bangladesh international border in West Bengal’s Malda district. The soldiers foiled the daring attempt of a group of Bangladeshi smugglers who were trying to force cattle across the border into Bangladesh by infiltrating the Indian border in the dark of night. Angered by this, the group of smugglers attacked the soldier on duty with a sharp weapon, after which a Bangladeshi smuggler was killed in the retaliatory firing by the BSF. BSF sources said on Wednesday that the incident took place around 10 pm on Tuesday night in Itaghati area, the border post of 159 Corps in Malda district under the force’s southern border. A torch, a mobile phone, two sharp sticks and sticks along with six cattle were also seized from the scene. Smugglers tried to take cattle from India to Bangladesh. BSF Public Relations Officer and DIG AK Arya said that when the soldiers tried to stop them, the smugglers attacked them with sharp weapons. The soldier somehow saved his life and shot in self-defense, killing the smuggler. The smuggler who was killed was identified when he fell, Rukanpur Village, Chapainwabj District, Bangladesh.
According to information received from BSF, the soldiers of Itaghati border post received information that some smugglers were planning to take the cattle to Bangladesh. The jawan patrolling at night suddenly saw suspicious activity of about 8-10 smugglers along with six to seven cattle on the border road, who were armed with sharp weapons (daa), swords and sticks. The jawan challenged the smugglers to stop, but the smugglers moved aggressively towards the jawan. Then 20 to 25 more smugglers from Bangladesh arrived there. They tried to render the soldier blind and ineffective by shining lights on his face and eyes.

The soldier was surrounded on all sides

The soldier warned them again but the smugglers did not stop. The soldier then fired three bullets into the air and three bullets into the ground. But the smugglers continued to surround the soldier and came very close to him. When he saw his life in danger, the soldier again fired four bullets at the smugglers in self-defense. Taking advantage of the darkness, the smugglers left the cattle and fled towards Bangladesh. Later, when the area was searched, a smuggler was found dead. Six cattle and other items were also found from the place. The officer said that this is the second incident in this area in the last week where cattle smugglers carry out a deadly attack on the soldiers.

Bangladeshi smugglers often attack soldiers: BSF DIG

BSF DIG Arya said that despite repeatedly writing letters of protest to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) regarding cattle smuggling, Bangladeshi smugglers/smugglers deliberately try to smuggle cattle and attack BSF soldiers guarding the border daily. Keep attacking. This year, there have been many incidents of attacks on BSF by Bangladeshi smugglers, including one on March 26, in which a soldier was injured. Besides that, another soldier almost lost his hand in a similar attack, another soldier lost his sight completely and many other soldiers were seriously injured. He said that the BSF soldiers are performing their duty vigilantly on the Indo-Bangladesh border without worrying about their lives. When the smugglers are unsuccessful in their evil plans, they carry out deadly attacks on the soldiers. The forces take strict measures to prevent smuggling while protecting themselves and government property, and sometimes result in serious consequences for the smugglers.
