Amid reports of post-poll violence in West Bengal, the Calcutta High Court ordered the deployment of central forces in the state by June 21.

While giving instructions, the High Court said that maintaining law and order in the country should be the top priority of the state government. The court said that the state police should coordinate with each other along with the central forces.

The next hearing in the case will be held on June 18.

The court asked the government to take the law and order seriously. Earlier, the court directed the DGP to register complaints through e-mail. The High Court ordered the state government to submit a comprehensive report on the violence in the country on June 16. The court will hold the next hearing in this case on June 18.

BJP welcomed the court order

BJP welcomed the Calcutta High Court’s order regarding the violence in West Bengal. Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, said the Supreme Court’s decision was a huge blow to the “reign of terror” unleashed by the ruling Trinamool Congress government.

Suvendu Adhikari tweeted on social media. Deployment of central armed paramilitary forces has been ordered by June 2024. This will stop TMC’s conspiracy to commit violence against BJP workers after the elections.

“The state government wants to oust the central forces”

Regarding the post-poll violence, lawyer and BJP leader Priyanka Tiberwal said, “A petition has been filed in the Calcutta High Court in this regard. One of the petitioners was the leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari, the second petition was filed by myself. Priyanka further said that the state government wants the central forces to leave the state. But we submitted a request to the court to increase the central security forces. For this reason, the court gave permission to increase the central forces until June 21.
