Rudraprayag: A terrible bus accident happened on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway. A Tempo Traveler bus falls into a deep gorge near Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand. There are known to be at least 23 passengers. At least 8 passengers died on the spot, 15 were injured. However, the administration fears that the number of deaths could increase.
The Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the rescue after the incident. SDRF Chief Manikant Mishra said the death toll could rise as many of the injured were in critical condition. He further said, “It is still not clear how many people were in the Tempo Traveller”.

According to news agency sources, the SDRF and the state police have joined the rescue. Regarding the incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “I have received the news of the accident of Tempo Passenger at Rudraprayag, a very sad incident. Local administration and SDRF have joined the rescue operation. The injured were immediately sent to the nearest medical centre. The District Magistrate has ordered an investigation into the incident.
The accident took place on the way to Srinagar on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway. It is learned that the passengers were squeezed into the Passenger when the incident occurred 6 km from Rudraprayag. The bus fell off the mountain into the Alaknanda river below. Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle was speeding.
