The oath-taking ceremony, held at Raj Niwas, also saw five other ministers – Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Kailash Gehlot, Imran Hussain and the first member of the Knesset Mukesh Ahlawat – taking oath.

Atishi was appointed Chief Minister after Arvind Kejriwal resigned from his post on 17 September. Kejriwal’s resignation was accepted by Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena, while Shatishi was unanimously elected as the leader of the AAP legislature party, paving the way for her new role.

A newspaper announcement issued by the Ministry of the Interior of the Union confirmed the appointment, and stated that Atishi will take office immediately after the inauguration. The president also approved the appointment of the other five government ministers.
