Achi News Updates,

The Assam government has suspended a school teacher accused of corruption in the recruitment of 26,000 Grade III and IV posts, who was “in police custody for over 48 hours”, a minister said on Tuesday.

Victor Das, a few days ago, had tweeted targeting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma and Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, alleging that some officers and former MLAs were demanding bribes of Rs 3-8 lakh to get jobs in the ongoing recruitment drive. .

Following this, Das was summoned for questioning and arrested by the Guwahati police on 9 September for spreading rumours, and conspiring to foment discord among various sections of the community in elections for government posts. Das was granted bail on September 16.

According to the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964, any government servant who remains in police custody for more than 48 hours will be treated as suspended, Education Minister Ranoj Begu said. “His suspended charge has nothing to do with his involvement in a private coaching centre. It was automatic due to service rules,” the minister told a press conference here.

The suspension order was issued on September 13, he said here. Departmental action will be initiated as per rules against Das, a teacher of Pab Panithema Radha Krishna Jugal Milan Lower School in Kamrup district, he added.

While all the opposition parties are criticizing this move of the government, this arrest has caused a huge backlash. The DGP had sought a report from the Guwahati police on September 18 about the arrested person.

More than 14.30 lakh candidates have applied for the recruitment to more than 26,000 Grade III and IV posts of various government departments with the exams to be held on August 21, 28 and September 11.
