All crime is an anti-social act. The impact of some crimes is limited to specific individuals or families. However, some crimes affect society as a whole. Such crimes have far-reaching consequences. A trained, dedicated and efficient police force is needed to control and detect these types of crimes. The first type of such crime is the production, trafficking, sale of narcotic drugs. The threads of these types of crimes intertwine with international mafia conspiracies.

We have a lot of drug related crimes coming to light these days. Our young generation is being ruined by these drugs. Everyone knows the story of ‘Udta Punjab’. The steps taken by the police to stop the drug related crimes are not that sudden. Such rackets reach the bottom of society. Therefore, it is very important to give close attention by the central government to the gram panchayat level to destroy it. A competent anti-narcotics squad should be created for each district, city under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police and the Commissioner of Police. Integrity, efficient officers – workers should be appointed in it. The ‘NDPS’ Act is strict and very strict. It definitely has a big impact on criminals if used properly. In that regard, such a case should be placed before a special NDPS court in each district and its verdict should be decided within the specified period.

Another solution is to seize the assets of those involved in the drug supply chain. After such action by the district police, the ED should immediately file a case and take further action as per the PMLA. It should be noted that such offenders can be prosecuted under PMLA. For this, an officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police should be appointed as the Nodal Officer at the State level.

On the other hand, those who have become addicted should be treated as victims and given appropriate medication. There is a need to start treatment and rehabilitation centers for drug addicts in all areas by taking the lead from the Social Welfare Department. With the help of ‘NGOs’ awareness campaigns should be carried out in society, especially in schools and colleges about the side effects of these substances. When I was the Commissioner of Police in Nagpur, we emphasized awareness of the ill effects of drugs through the Student-Police initiative that we started. It has shown good results in many places. If the police, NGOs and the social welfare department work together, such efforts can lead to good results.

Another form of anti-social crime is human trafficking. Like narcotics, this crime has an international dimension. Trafficking in people means using women for prostitution, using children as prostitutes and beggars, attracting jobs or exploiting people in different ways. Recently, many Indian youth have been used in this way in the Russia-Ukraine war. Therefore, the police system should be more capable in this respect; Further, action should be taken against the people involved in such crimes through ‘ED’. Prostitution seems to have flourished recently because of human trafficking. The use of underage girls in this is alarming. So there is a need for extensive work of strict enforcement of laws for social awareness and rehabilitation of victims.

The use of firearms has also increased in our country recently. Naxalites, mafia, sociopaths, criminal minded people use such weapons illegally. Many mafia gangs are involved in the arms trade. There is a need to prevent and take strict action against such people so that social security as well as national security is not affected. NIA is very effective in taking action against people involved in terrorist activities. Other systems like ‘NIA’ also need to be operational.

Cyber crimes also occur on a large scale in society. Cybercriminals commit this crime anywhere in the world. Although such crimes have a financial impact on many people every day, their resolution rate is relatively low. In that sense, the police system needs to be made more efficient. PMLA also applies to such offenders. Necessary action should be taken promptly. At the same time, banks’ KYC system should also be further strengthened. Bank officers should also be trained on cyber crimes. Public awareness is the most effective measure to prevent these types of crimes. Many educated people are also victims of this crime. Many forms of sexual abuse also occur through this. There is a need for more comprehensive coordination at the country level to catch cybercriminals.

Society as a whole is currently terrorized by the four evils of crime: drugs, human trafficking, firearms and cyber fraud. To overcome all these effectively, you must have a strong data system. The police currently have a ‘CCTNS’ system. But, many states are not in this system. Although it contains data on all types of offences, there is a need to create a separate database for these four serious offenses on a priority basis. On that basis, such offenders can be dealt with effectively. Furthermore, the intelligence system should be strengthened to tackle these heinous crimes which are at the root of these crimes. The media can also play an important role in this work. Also of these crimes

A school curriculum should create awareness of side effects. These four demons can be eradicated with the thunder of political will, an efficient police system, an aware public and active social institutions.
