America has filed a lawsuit against Apple. The tech giant has been accused of monopolizing the smartphone market and stifling competition. Apple has denied these allegations against it after the lawsuit was filed.

In the lawsuit, the Justice Department also alleged that the company abused its control over the iPhone App Store. It talks about taking illegal steps to make competitors’ products less attractive.

These 4 claims were also made against Apple

  • The company uses its market power to earn more money from users, developers, content creators, artists, publishers, small businesses and merchants.
  • Apple has made it difficult for rival companies’ smartwatches to connect to the iPhone and blocked banks and other financial firms from accessing its tap-to-pay technology.
  • Apple has also been accused of stifling the creation of great apps. Other tech companies like Meta have long wanted to launch such advanced apps on the iPhone.
  • The policies adopted by Apple hurt consumers and small companies that compete with some of Apple’s services.

Apple shares fell after news of the lawsuit
Apple shares fell 4.09% on Wall Street on Thursday due to news of the lawsuit against the company.

Apple said – Based on facts and law this lawsuit is wrong
US Attorney General Merrick Garland said, ‘Consumers should not have to pay higher prices because companies break antitrust laws. If this is not challenged, Apple will continue to consolidate its smartphone monopoly.

Apple has said that this lawsuit threatens our identity and the principles that differentiate Apple products in the competitive market. “This lawsuit is wrong based on the facts and the law, and we will defend it.”

Last year, Apple stopped selling its latest smartwatch in America.
In December last year, Apple had banned the sale of the latest Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2. The company had taken this decision due to the patent dispute regarding the blood oxygen feature provided in these smartwatches. However, the company was later relieved by the US Court of Appeals.
