The Ambala Cantt Assembly seat in Haryana remains hot because former Home Minister Anil Vij is the BJP candidate from here. Anil Vij has become MLA from this seat 6 times. Congress gave ticket to former councilor Parvinder Singh Pari, close to MP Kumari Selja.

.

Apart from these, Raj Kaur Gill of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Omkar Singh of INLD-BSP, Avtar Kardhan of JJP-SP and rebel Chitra Sarwara of Congress are in the fray. The total number of voters in Ambala Cantt is 2.7 lakh. The main issues here are broken and waterlogged roads.

People are saying that Anil Vij does not have a one sided atmosphere on this seat. People are troubled by the problem of broken and waterlogged roads after rain in the area. These things will become a problem for Vij. However, since Vij has declared himself in CM’s face, he may benefit from this. If Vij is made Chief Minister, more projects will come in the assembly constituency.

According to people, factionalism will cost the Congress heavily in this election. Due to his closeness to Selja, former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda is keeping a distance from Congress candidate Parvinder Pari. Here only Chitra will compete with Anil Vij. She had also stood second in the last election.

Parvinder Pari keeps claiming that Bhupendra Singh Hooda convinced other leaders on this seat, but did not go to convince Chitra. He points out that Hooda group is secretly supporting Chitra somewhere. If Congress votes shift towards Chitra, Anil Vij may be in trouble.

Understand Ambala Cantt Assembly equations in 4 points

  • Punjabi and Jat Sikh have about 80 thousand votes in Ambala Cantt. Between 1967 and 2019, a majority of people from the Punjabi community have been becoming MLAs here. Anil Vij also has a good grip on this seat. After claiming the CM’s chairmanship, people are hopeful that the incomplete Cantt projects will be completed.
  • Here the voters of Vaishya community are in the second place. In 2005, Congress candidate Devendra Kumar Bansal, who hails from the Vaishya community, won from here. If we look at the trend of the last three elections, most of the votes of the Vaishya community have shifted towards the BJP. Apart from this, most of the votes of the OBC community will also go to the BJP.
  • There is a 15-year drought on this Congress seat. After Devendra Bansal, Anil Vij has won here three times in a row. This time, if the Congress votes are split between Parvinder Pari and Chitra Charwara, Anil Vij will directly benefit from it. If the majority of Congress and Jat community votes go towards Chitra, then Anil Vij’s problems will increase.
  • INLD-BSP candidate Omkar Singh and JJP-SP’s Avtaar Kardhan are also from the ABA community. The BJP will have a direct impact on some sections of the votes of the Scheduled Caste and OBC community going towards them.

Anil Vij said – worked, will work

Anil Vij has become MLA from Ambala Cantt assembly seat 6 times. First of all he won the elections in the year 1990 on BJP ticket. After this, when BJP rejected the ticket, he contested the elections as an independent candidate in 1996 and 2000 and won. In 2009, 2014 and 2019 he became an MLA on a BJP ticket. He has been a cabinet minister in 2014 and 2019. He has recently claimed the position of Prime Minister.

Vij says his supporters are constantly pressing that you are the highest in the party, you should also claim the Chief Ministership. However, Anil Vij also made it clear that the party will take the final decision on who will be made the Prime Minister.

Anil Vij says in front of the public in this election that he has worked and will work. My employee is my star campaigner. Regarding the problem of broken and waterlogged roads in Cantt, Vij says this is part of my planning. We are working on this continuously. Our effort was to have the complete system up and running before this election, but it is taking time.

Chitra Sarwara is asking for votes in the name of eradicating corruption

Chitra Sarwara is the daughter of former minister Nirmal Singh Mohra. Nirmal Singh is contesting from Ambala City on a Congress ticket. Chitra became a councilor in 2013. She joined the Congress in March 2015. In 2016, she was appointed Senior Vice President of the Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee. After this he was made secretary. After not getting a Congress ticket in 2019, he contested the assembly elections as an independent and stood second.

In the year 2023, she joined the Aam Aadmi Party and was given the responsibility of State Vice President in the party. She again joined the Congress on 5 January 2024. Now in 2024 also she was seeking a ticket from the Congress, but Parvinderpal Pari was made a candidate in her place. Chitra rebelled and filed her nomination as an independent candidate.

Chitra believes that there has been development here during Vij’s tenure as MLA, but corruption has also increased. He says there has been a scam in the stadium and road tender here. Tenders are repeatedly made and later canceled. The condition of the roads here is very bad. It is filled with water during rainy days. The sewage system could not work.

Parvinder Pari raises the issue of broken roads

Congress candidate Parvinder Pari is a hotelier. He has been the state president of the Youth Congress in 2002. After this, in 2005 he was made the General Secretary of the Youth Congress. He has also been a councilor from Ambala Cantt. His wife Nimrit Kaur runs an NGO called Ek Moshish, where she helps women and children.

He has been associated with the Congress Party for a long time. He is from the Kumari Selja group. Kumari Selja was given the ticket only after her advocacy.

Pari raises the problem of broken and waterlogged roads before the public. He says that the BJP government did nothing for the Cantt Assembly constituency. After coming into force, the first thing that will be done is the roads here. If I become an MLA from here, I will get a ministerial post.

What are Ambala Cantt voters saying?

Surinder said – left after cutting the roads

Retired officer Surinder Rana said the roads in Ambala Cantt are in bad condition. Roads are torn up and abandoned. Due to the poor condition of the constituency, there is anger among the people against the BJP candidate, Anil Vij. The main contest of the city is between Anil Vij, Chitra Sarwara and Parvinder Pari.

There is more competition between Chitra and Vij, because earlier Chitra had also contested elections from Ambala Cantt and stood second. Chitra had the right, Congress should have made her a candidate.

Sombir said – farmers were being cheated

Farmer Sombir Singh said the BJP has betrayed farmers. Farmers first demonstrated in Delhi for ASA, now Khannauri and Shambhu are sitting on the border. BJP should think about the farmers, after all they are the food providers of the country. There is a tough fight between Vij and Chitra in Ambala Cantt. Vij has done the work here, but the Congress wave is running in the state. The Congress did not give a ticket to Chitra, but the votes there will go to her alone.

Pankaj Sharma said – Vij will have a one-sided victory

Property dealer Pankaj Sharma said Congress will sink due to factionalism. Congress should have given ticket to Chitra. Only Chitra can compete with Vij in Cantt. Like the last election, Chitra will lose by a large margin. Anil Vij will have a one-sided victory for the fourth time in a row.

Nishit Jain said – No one knows the AAP candidate

Nishit Jain, who runs a ready-made clothes shop, said that Aam Aadmi Party candidate Raj Kaur Gill has no support of any kind in Ambala Cantt. There is a new face, people don’t even know him better. Currently there is competition between Chitra, Pari and Anil Vij. Whoever comes to the ATM of the area, must know about the basic problems of the people.

Roads in the city should be improved. Waterlogged rain should be corrected in small settlements.

Sugand Jain said – Vij will benefit by calling himself the face of CM.

Sugand Jain, who belongs to Jain community, said that Anil Vij has described himself as the face of CM, which will definitely benefit him in the elections. So far his position in the constituency appears strong. There are some tasks that are incomplete. They should have been completed. People have to face many problems due to rain water entering their houses. People are supporting Anil Vij from Ambala Cantt, but Chitra will give him a tough fight.
