The internet is currently abuzz over Alan Ritchson’s appearance alongside Henry Cavill in an upcoming action comedy The Ministry of Rude Warfare – but those who enjoy his work should also show some appreciation, ahem, of the gay role in which he played 90210.
Although Alan Ritchson is now known for his roles in action projects like 2013 The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and the title role in thriller series ReacherThe US actor, 41, began with a string of minor roles, including various appearances on teenage dramas.
Way back in 2011, Ritchson appeared on a single episode of Beverly Hills, 90210 spinoff 90210 as it follows the lives of several wealthy students attending West Beverly Hills High School.
In the episode, entitled ‘The Enchanted Donkey’, Ritchson appeared as Tripp, Teddy’s (Trevor Donovan) former college roommate and love interest. Teddy tells his best friend Silver (Jessica Stroup) that Tripp was the first man he ever had feelings for, and that the crush even forced him to leave school.
Fortunately, the pair later kiss over some beers, and then hook up, although tragically viewers are not familiar with the latter; the next morning, Tripp explains to Teddy that he and his girlfriend are in an open relationship, which was way ahead of its time for 2011.
Ritchson himself is married to his wife Catherine, with whom he shares three sons.
Has Alan Ritchson played any other gay roles?
No, but he wore a jockstrap and shoved an oreo up his boot in the first episode of an American sitcom Blue Mountain Stateso that’s it.
