Whether you need to get a SIM card, open a bank account, enroll your child in school, or get a ration card, driving license or passport, Aadhaar is accepted almost everywhere. Therefore, it is essential to update your Aadhaar details from time to time. The government has extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar details for free. In the past, the deadline was June 14.
Let’s find out what is the deadline set by UIDAI for free Aadhaar updates, till when you can update Aadhaar for free, and what is the process to update Aadhaar online?
UIDAI, the Aadhaar issuing organization, has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar card updating. In the past, the deadline was June 142024, which has now been extended by three months until September 142024. This means that Aadhaar card holders can update their personal information free of charge till September 14. However, if you visit an Aadhaar center offline to update documents, you will have to pay a fee.
If your Aadhaar was issued 10 years ago and has not been updated since then, UIDAI advises submitting Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents to re-verify demographic details, ensure better access to Aadhaar-related services and make the verification process more efficient. Demographic details include name, date of birth, address and gender.
Now let’s understand which documents are necessary for Aadhaar update.
To update documents, you must submit proof of identity (POI) and proof of address (POA).
- Identity proofs like pension certificate, voter ID card, Indian passport, government issued identity card with address etc., are valid both as proof of identity and address.
- While documents like PAN card, driving license, photo ID with address, school leaving certificate with photo or transfer certificate are only valid as Proofs of Identity (POI).
- Similarly, recent utility bills (electricity/water/gas) of the last three months, bank/postal ledger, tenancy agreement, tenancy agreement and license agreement are only valid as proof of address (POA).
Now the question arises, how to update Aadhaar details online?
- To update free documents on Aadhaar, you need to visit the UIDAI website https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/
- Enter your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number to login
- Verify the information related to identity and address.
- Upload necessary documents related to identity and address and submit.
In this way, the Aadhaar update process will be completed. But remember, your mobile number must be registered to update documents online in Aadhaar. You can register your mobile number with Aadhaar just by visiting an Aadhaar center. In addition, details related to biometrics such as iris, fingerprints and photos cannot be uploaded online.
