Hyderabad: These days, when you go to hotels and restaurants, you must have noticed that you bring a water bottle. Earlier they used to keep water in water mugs for free. But now hotel and restaurant owners have found a way to earn income from water too. Similarly, a restaurant was duly fined for not offering free water to a customer.

Penalty to the owner

The District Consumer Commission has given a shock to a restaurant in Hyderabad, Telangana. The owners of the restaurant who made money by giving bottled water to the customers who come to the restaurant without giving water for free have been fined.

Fine for selling water

Thousands of people visit hotels and restaurants every day to enjoy food with family members, friends, business partners. They also taste food worth thousands of rupees. But now they pay for water which is a basic facility. In general, free drinking water should be provided at food distribution points. But the revenue is generated by giving bottled water to the customers. Customers are unhappy about this. It has been postponed in accordance with the orders of the governments. However, in some places they are paid for drinking water.

Class Consumer Commission fine 5000 rupees

The Telangana government had issued a regulation to provide free water to customers in restaurants and hotels from 2023. But the restaurant and hotel owners who do not follow the order of the Department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development are making money by giving bottled water to the customers instead of giving them free water. Similarly, the District Consumer Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on a restaurant which was charging Rs 50 per bottle beyond the rules.
