On Wednesday, the tables at K-BBQ Coreen were set for a lunchtime rush but there was no rush — and there hasn’t been since the fire department closed it down last November.
Customers at the Dollard-Des Ormeaux restaurant have been cooking their food using a tabletop grill for the past seven years. When Zhu Li opened the business on Boulevard St. Jean, he said the city was aware of it and gave him permission.
Now, years later, the fire department says that the restaurant does not comply with fire safety regulations.
“They tell all the customers, ‘Stop, you can no longer cook on the table,'” Lee recalled.
