A group of Wasaga Beach residents are on edge as they wait to find out if power at the hotel they call home will be shut off Monday.

On Thursday, Dyconia Hotel residents were informed that their electricity service was due to be disconnected on Monday, with little time to prepare.

Residents say they heard about the impending power outage through a notice posted on the property.

According to the town of Wasaga Beach, the notice stems from the owner’s failure to pay the electric bill for all 38 units in the property, all of which rely on hydro as their energy source for electricity and heat .

On Sunday, town officials told CTV News that staff continue to monitor the situation closely and are ready to take action to ensure that no person or family is put in an unsafe situation.

“I know a lot of people are going to be up in arms, we have fridges, freezers and children,” said Patty David, a resident and former Dyconia Hotel property manager.

CTV News contacted Wasaga’s district, but no one was available for comment.

In addition, CTV News also contacted the owner of the Dyconia Hotel; however, the owner did not comment.
