Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a statement supporting their sister-in-law after Kate Middleton publicly shared her cancer diagnosis with the world on Friday.
“We wish Kate and the family health and healing, and hope they can do so privately and in peace,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement shared with HuffPost.
In a video shared by Kensington Palace on Friday, the Princess of Wales spoke about her health struggles over the past few months.
“In January, I had major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was believed that my condition was cancer-free,” said Kate.
“The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found that cancer was present,” he explained. “My medical team therefore advised that I should follow a course of preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
“This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” said the Princess of Wales, adding “it has taken us. time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I’m going to be okay.”
Kate ended her message by saying she is looking forward to being back at work when she can, but is now focused on “making a full recovery.”
“Right now, I’m also thinking about everyone whose lives have been affected by cancer. To all who face this disease, in whatever form, do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone,” he added.
The news comes at a shocking time for the royal family, as Buckingham Palace previously announced on February 5 that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer, but did not specify the type or severity of the cancer.
The cancer was discovered following treatment the king received in hospital for an enlarged prostate.
