Two men carrying a bike and a pedestrian were killed in a road accident on Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Road in Ghatkopar in the early hours of Monday. Police said that Sameer Mustafa and Muzaffar Badshah, both residents of Ashok Nagar in Sakinaka, led them in the south direction on their bike. Around 4am, Sameer started speeding near Sai Hotel and hit a pedestrian, identified as Suresh, who sustained serious injuries, including those to the skull.
A police official said the rider apparently lost control and rammed into Suresh, who was crossing the road. He was thrown several meters away. The officer said that the accident was captured on CCTV in the area. The bike, too, slid for at least 80-90 metres, killing the rider and the pillion.
Due to the crashing sound from the accident, a number of local people were alerted and arrived at the scene. None of them could recognize Suresh, as the accident had almost crushed his face. All three were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital but were declared brought dead.
Ghatkopar police reached the hospital for formalities and identification of the victims. While Sameer and Muzaffar were identified from their documents, Suresh was identified much later; he lived close to the scene of the accident.
As per the procedure, an FIR has been registered against Sameer for causing death due to negligence, and rash driving, among other sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
