An officer from the London Police, known as Pc Cliff Mitchell, aged 23, has been formally charged with six counts of rape and threatening to kill. These charges stem from an incident where a woman was found in distress inside a vehicle.

The arrest of Pc Mitchell took place after a concerned member of the public reported the situation to the police. This incident took place in Hackbridge, which is located in south-west London, last Tuesday.

According to reports, the police were informed that the woman had been attacked within a residence by an individual who knew her. This offender then forced her into a vehicle.

Notably, Mitchell, who is a currently serving police officer, was not on duty at the time of this incident and has since been suspended from the force. He has been formally charged on Thursday and is expected to appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. The charges against him include six charges of rape, one charge of threatening to kill, and one charge of breaching a molestation order.

Furthermore, it was revealed that Scotland Yard had made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct regarding this matter.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy said: “These are horrific allegations and the victim is being supported by specially trained officers.

“Officers from the Met’s Professional Standards Directorate are investigating. They are highly experienced detectives who specialize in investigating domestic abuse and sexual offences.

“This is an active investigation and inquiries are continuing apace.”

“The arrest of a serving police officer on suspicion of such serious offenses is very concerning and I recognize that it will cause considerable concern among London communities.

“I share those concerns and have made an immediate referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”
