Praneet Rao was arrested earlier this month and accused of developing profiles of unknown people and illegally monitoring their activities, as well as destroying data stored in some computer systems and electronic gazettes. The evidence was allegedly destroyed on the orders of Prabhakar Rao. The order was reportedly given a day after the Congress defeated the BRS in the 2023 assembly elections. The people whose device was allegedly monitored include people from the Congress, BJP and BRS. It is also alleged that the device of Revanth Reddy (now Chief Minister of the state) was monitored. There are reports that Telugu actors and businessmen are also being watched and many of them have been blackmailed. According to sources, more than one lakh phone calls have been tapped. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy says strict action will be taken in this matter.
