Petroleum Minister Mossadeq Malik says Iran will present its stand on the Pakistan Gas Pipeline project to the US and will take exemptions from the US We cannot afford US sanctions.

In Islamabad, Minister of Petroleum Mossadeq Malik said while speaking informally to journalists that Iran has been told repeatedly that we need your gas, we want to complete this project without any restrictions.

He said we have concerns about the increase in gas prices, whether it’s the low price of the dollar or more companies asking for an increase.

Mossadeq Malik said that only 25 to 27 percent of the citizens have access to gas, more than seventy percent of the people do not have access to gas, only for 25 to 27 percent of the people who have a gas problem, which is 99 percent of the people do not have an electricity system, so providing cheap electricity is the only solution to the problem.

He said that by running LNG plants on gas, the cost per unit is 22 to 26 rupees, by generating electricity on local gas, the price per unit is reduced to 10 to 12 rupees, by running plants on wellhead price , the cost of electricity is 5 rupees. From 6 rupees per unit, we have to give cheap electricity to the people to save gas.

The Minister of Petroleum said that oil is imported from Russia through the private sector, captive power plants are discouraged.

He said that I am not aware of implementation of sales tax on petroleum products.

He said that the six LNG power plants in Pakistan are highly efficient, these plants can be converted to local gas to generate cheap electricity, we follow the policy of giving a level playing field to all in the energy sector.

According to Mossadegh Malik, the revolving debt of the energy sector has reached 5000 billion, and reforms will have to be introduced to get rid of the revolving debt.
