22 Bengaluru Families Fined for Water Misuse | 22 Bengaluru families fined for water misuse: Took drinking water from car wash; The city is facing its biggest water crisis in 500 years. Achi-News

People started protesting against the state government two weeks ago amid the water crisis in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru, the third most populous city in the country, is facing a water crisis. To reduce water scarcity, the Bengaluru Water Supply Board has fined 22 families Rs 5,000 each for water misuse. They used drinking water for car washing and gardening.

In fact, the board had imposed a ban two weeks ago on the use of potable water for washing cars, clothes or watering plants. Taking action regarding this, the board has collected a total fine of Rs 1 lakh 10 thousand from 22 families. All the 22 families are from different areas of Bengaluru, but the highest fine (80 thousand) has been collected from the South region of the city.

The board also advised not to use Kaveri river water and borehole water for Holi. The board said water was being misused at pool parties and rain dances. People should avoid this.

Due to water scarcity, a section of nearly 1.4 crore people in Bengaluru are forced to look for alternative solutions. Many people have started migrating from the city. On the other hand, people who wanted to buy houses have started to change their minds.

Demand for work from home IT companies
On social media, people are asking the state CM Siddaramaiah to make work from home mandatory for IT companies, so that they can get rid of this problem by going to their homes in the city or outside it. Training centers and schools have advised children to take classes from home instead of coming to school.

IIM Bengaluru is working on water reuse
Another technical expert, Deepak Raghav, said he had come from Kolkata. He said he has to pay a whopping amount of Rs 1,500 for 6,000 liters of water every week because of the rent A tube well in the house has dried up.

Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM) – IIMB makes more than 2.5 lakh liters of water reusable every day through its Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). To increase its scope, 57 artificial ponds have been dug. 17 wells are being built.

Chennai has already gone through a severe water crisis in 2019. The situation there got to such an extent that water had to be transported by water train. In fact, water supply to Chennai, the country’s sixth largest city, comes from four reservoirs there, which had dried up. The crisis worsened due to delay in the monsoon. Because of this, the government had to order 1 crore liters of water on the train every day, for which Rs 66 crores were spent.

Sound of emergency in Hyderabad too, call for tanker 4 times
The sound of water crisis can be heard in Hyderabad too. There are two main water sources – Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir (Krishna River) and Yellampalli Reservoir (Godavari River). The water level in these two reservoirs is dangerously low. In many areas, the demand for water tankers has suddenly increased 10 times. In Manikonda area, due to water crisis, people started protesting on the streets.

Water crisis in 10 cities by the end of this decade
In a recent report by NITI Aayog, it has been estimated that around 10 Indian cities may face severe water crisis by 2030. The cities whose names have been included in the report include – Jaipur, Delhi, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar of Gujarat, Gurugram, Indore, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ghaziabad.
