X Elon Musk has thrown her support behind a Canadian doctor who has been caught up in legal disputes over his controversial stance on covid policies during the peak of the pandemic. When Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill was slammed for her endorsement of vaccines and lockdowns in 2021, she hit back, filing a $12-million libel suit to clear her name of what she described as “false defamation.”
A pre-trial procedural ruling against Dr. Gill to a cost order of up to $1.2 million in October 2022. This decision and the costs order were appealed, ultimately resulting in a cost order of almost $300K in February of this year. Gill, an immunologist and pediatrician, says she faced harassment and censorship after opposing Canada and Ontario’s covid measures.

Elon Musk’s X on Sunday pledged support for Dr Gill, with the platform covering the outstanding amount of her legal battle. Underscoring the democratic essence of free speech, the X News account’s statement emphasized its commitment to protecting it. The platform, often derided by the American left, testified to its dedication to fostering open discussion, aiming for a censorship-free platform.
“Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill is a front line physician in Ontario, Canada who supports fully informed voluntary consent without any form of coercion or restriction in all medical decisions. She is a long-time advocate for patient autonomy, evidence-based decision-making, protecting the patient-physician relationship, and a quality, accessible health care system,” according to a crowdfunding website Dr. Gill helped raise money.
“During the summer of 2020, Dr. Gill is one of the first Canadian doctors to bravely speak publicly on social media about the catastrophic and irreparable damage of locks. It quickly became the target of a malicious, organized online smear campaign that encouraged the public to lodge complaints with its regulatory body. In an attempt to clear her name from false defamation, she had launched legal proceedings against those responsible,” the website added.
