A new idol will be installed in the Shri Durga Bhagwati temple

People from Hindu and Muslim communities have joined hands to renovate the 400-year-old Sri Durga Bhagavathy temple at Muthuvallur in Konduti, Kerala. What remains is a topic of discussion on social networks. Officials associated with the temple said that almost half of the money spent so far on the renovation was donated by people from the Muslim community. The first phase of the renovation is almost complete. The 173 cm tall idol of the goddess will be consecrated in a three-day ceremony starting May 7.

The renovation works of the temple started in 2015 – Chandran P

Chandran P, chairman of the temple’s management committee, said that the renovation of the temple started in 2015. We appealed to people to donate irrespective of the religious and communal divide. Many people donated a lot. I am happy to say that a large part of these donations are from the people of the Muslim community. Affirmed, Chandran recalled how senior party leaders like Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) supremo Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal and PK Kunhalikutty responded positively to his request for donations and extended full support to the renovation of the temple.

Thangal also visited the temple during an event organized there last year to raise funds. Thekkiniyedath Tharananellur Padmanabhan Unni Namboothiripad of the temple conveyed a ‘patrika’ love message to Konhalikotty during a function held at the temple in March this year. Chandran said that since IUML MLA Kunhalikutty could not attend the event due to some other plans, the temple committee members later delivered the magazine to him at his home.
