Supreme Court has given major relief to DMRC. In fact, the Supreme Court on Wednesday accepted that DMRC is not bound to pay Rs 8,000 crore to Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited and allowed DMRC’s petition. Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited is a company of Reliance Infrastructure Company led by Anil Ambani. A bench of Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra had reserved its decision on this matter in February.
What does it matter
In the petition, DMRC appealed to the Supreme Court to reconsider its earlier decision. In a petition by DMRC, it challenged the order of payment of Rs 8,000 crore to DAMEPL. Delhi Metro’s Airport Express line was operated by Anil Ambani’s Delhi Airport Metro Express Limited, but in 2013, due to various reasons, DMRC canceled the company’s contract ahead of schedule. Also, DMRC has not paid the termination fee to the company. After that, Delhi Airport Metro Express Limited opposed DMRC’s decision and started a legal battle between the two parties. The dispute was submitted to arbitration in 2017, in which the court ruled in favor of Ambani’s DAMEPL and required DMRC to pay the arbitration award to the company. Now this amount, including interest, has become eight thousand kroner.
