The news of his sudden death has left members and fans of the Dragon Ball franchise and anime community in mourning.

On Friday, the ‘Dragon Ball Official’ page published a statement on social media saying, ‘Dragon Ball manga Akira Toriyama left us on March 1. He was 68 years old at the time of his death. He was recently diagnosed with an acute subaqueous hematoma (type of blood cancer). That disease took his life.’

His hands and brain have given birth to many characters in the world of Japanese animation in his nearly 45 years of artist life that have been loved again and again by animation lovers around the world “We hope that Toriyama’s creations will hold their place in people’s minds for many years to come,” the statement read.

Akira Toriyama’s death has also been mourned by fans “Rest in peace Akira Toriyama, we will always miss you,” they said in several posts on X. One fan wrote, ‘You were a legend. Thank you Rest in peace ❤️’.

Another fan wrote, ‘This man was a legend, truly a genius who touched many lives. I am shocked and surprised at his death. This event is very sad, I believe, his legacy will live on for thousands of years.’
