Two 10th Century Stone Idols Found in UK Garden Shed – News18 Kannada Achi-News

10th century idols found in the UK!

Two 10th century stone idols stolen from a temple in India have been collected from an English garden shed. The two idols will be formally returned to the Government of India in a special handover ceremony at the Indian High Commission in London on August 15 last year, India’s Independence Day.

Yogini Camunda, Yogini Gomukhi idols found!

These sculptures represent two female deities, Yogini Camunda and Yogini Gomukhi. These were looted from a temple in the village of Lokhari in Uttar Pradesh between 1979 and 1982. According to the Times of India, they may have been taken by an illegal smuggling network operating from Rajasthan and Mumbai. These types of idols were not traditionally locked so they were easily stolen.

Idols found in an English house!

A pair of yoginis were found in March after an English woman sold most of her garden shed to a rescue company. He initially planned to sell the sculptures. But first he decided to investigate their origins.

In 2021, another goat head idol was found in the garden of an English woman who was preparing to sell her house. Another Rama-headed yogini from the same temple was found in Paris in 2013. Both are now in the National Museum, New Delhi.
