Calgary fire crews struggle to fight early morning fire – Calgary Achi-News

A pile of smoldering rubble is all that remains of a large garage that was destroyed by an early morning fire near Calgary.

The fire started around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday along Old Banff Coach Road just west of the Valley Ridge community on the city’s west side.

When fire crews arrived, the building was fully engulfed in smoke and fire.

The fire department tells Global News that there are many dangerous holes around the property and lack of access to water which made fighting the fire challenging.

Additional crews were called to help, but the building could not be saved.

Firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to a nearby abandoned house, although there was damage to the building’s siding.

So far there is no word on the cause of the fire, but an investigation is underway.
