Part of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is scheduled to take place for the first time at the Port of Montreal’s Grand Quay on Aug. 24 and 25, event organizers announced Tuesday.

Montreal is scheduled to be one of eight stops in the 2024 season of the high-flying diving competition, which takes place from a height of 27 meters at speeds that reach over 85 km/h until the athletes enter the water.

Two Canadians are expected to take part in the 2024 series, including Montreal’s Simon LeThad.

A rookie on the circuit this season, Lighthead competed in the World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, last summer.

The other Canadian is Molly Carlson, of Port Frances, Ont., who finished second in the 2023 Red Bull Cliff Women’s Diving Series.

“Montreal is considered the world capital of high-flying diving. Bringing a major event like this to the city only reinforces our position as a world leader,” said Olivier Moreno-Ricard, Head of Sport Development at Diving Canada and International Judge for the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.

This season, 12 divers and 12 divers are scheduled to compete in each stage, with eight divers on the regular team.

They will compete against four opponents in each category.

The 2024 season is the ninth year of the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series.
