Profit: Fire crews attending a large building fire Achi-News

The fire has started in the battery recycling factory around this location, according to the police.

Video footage has shown smoke billowing around the Pennyburn area with “pops and explosions” also heard in the distance.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that crews are still at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 10.05pm on Monday, April 8 to reports of a building on fire in Byrehill Place, Kilwinning.

“Operations Control moved six fire engines and one height vehicle to the area where firefighters are working to put out a fire affecting a recycling centre.

“There are no reports of injuries at this time and crews are still at the scene.”

Police Scotland have confirmed that the road around the location has been closed as a result of the fire.

Those who live nearby are also advised to stay indoors and close all doors and windows.

A police spokesman said: “Byrehill Road in Kilwinning is closed due to an ongoing fire at a recycling center in Byrehill Place.

“The emergency services are present. As a precaution, officers are advising local residents to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors closed while they deal with the incident.”
