ISLAMABAD: A hearing on intra-court appeals against military courts will be held today in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
A 6-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan will hear intra-court appeals against military courts, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Musrat Hilali and Justice Irfan Saadat Khan is part of the bench.
Justice (Retd) Jawad S Khawaja has asked for early hearing of the appeals and formation of a larger bench of 9 members. Detention was ordered.
The petition said that media reports indicated that the 6-member bench had been dissolved, the trial in the military courts had been completed, none of the innocent accused had been released. The related appeals are scheduled for hearing next week.
It may be recalled that the former Chief Justice Jawad S. Khawaja, on March 20, filed an application in the Supreme Court for an early hearing of appeals against military trials of civilians in military courts.
Yesterday the former Chief Justice Jawad S Khawaja filed a petition through his lawyer Advocate Khawaja Ahmed Hussain, pleading that if the appeal is rejected, citizens will have to remain in custody for months without reason.
