The International Astronomical Union (IAU) Working Group on Planetary System Names approved the name ‘Statio Shiv Shakti’

Shiv Shakti, the name given to the landing site of India’s Chandrayaan 3 lunar lander, on Tuesday, received international recognition from a globally recognized body for naming celestial objects.

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) Working Group on Planetary System Names approved the name ‘Shiv Shakti Station’ for the Vikram Chandrayaan landing site.

According to the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature, which provides detailed information on planetary names, the Shiv Shakti point was approved on March 19.

The Vikram Lander landing site was given the name Shiv Shakti on 26 August 2023 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “In Shiva, there is a resolve for the good of humanity and Shakti gives us strength to fulfill those resolves. This Shiva Shakti Moon Point also gives a sense of connection with the Himalayas to Kanyakumari,” Modi said while naming the site.

Apart from the Shiv Shakti landing spot, PM Modi also announced that the point where Chandrayaan-2 left its footprints will be called ‘Tiranga’ adding that it would be an inspiration for all endeavors undertaken by India and reminds us that failure is not failure. the end.

In 2008, India’s Chandrayaan-1 lunar impact probe (MIP) impacted the lunar surface on November 14, 2008. The impact site was named ‘Jawahar Point’ or ‘Jawahar Sthal’ as reported to the International Astronomical Union (IAU).

On August 24, 2023, India became the first country to land a spacecraft near the south pole of the moon as the Chandrayaan-3 overcame several challenges before its historic touchdown on the lunar surface.
