Food plays a vital role in keeping the body of any living organism healthy and fit. Having food is necessary as it contributes to the health of the body. Therefore, having good eating habits becomes essential to maintain a healthy and disease-free body for living a long life.

Although some people like to have strict food habits and lead their routine with a healthy diet, some people on the other hand think about having everything that tastes good to their taste buds. This can bring health problems in the long term including cancer too. It can be fast food, oily and spicy food, or even meat.

According to a recent study, it was found that people who eat a lot of meat are at greater risk of developing colon and rectal cancer, according to News18. As well as having meat, lifestyle factors such as not exercising enough, being obese, drinking alcohol and tobacco, and eating less fruit and vegetables can together increase the risk of colon cancer.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a worldwide health problem. It is the third most common cancer in men and the second most common cancer in women. According to a report by the Times of India, in 2022, about 19.2 lakh individuals globally and about 70,000 cases in India were diagnosed with CRC.

In CRC, chronic inflammation develops continuously through cell replacement in the intestinal walls. Sometimes it leads to the formation of tumors. Uncontrolled cell growth occurs. Although most of the tumors are benign, sometimes these are more likely to turn into cancerous tumors as well.

Symptoms of colon cancer that should not be ignored or raised include constipation, diarrhea, blood in the stool, abdominal pain during stool, anemia, fatigue, and rapid weight loss.

There are some possible and likely steps that can be taken to prevent colon cancer. It includes a healthy lifestyle, having a balanced diet, exercising regularly, having regular health checkups, less alcohol and tobacco or even avoiding alcohol and tobacco, and controlling meat consumption, especially red meat.
