There was big news about Eid in the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan

Astronomers and meteorologists expect to see the new moon after the 29th day of fasting in Pakistan, UAE may have to wait up to 30 days.

The meeting of the Pakistan Crescent Central Flow Committee will be held tomorrow at the Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Islamabad.

The purpose of the meeting chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad is to decide on seeing the new Islamic month, the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal with Eid al-Fitr.

The committee members will include representatives from Zonal Crescent Viewing Committees, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, SPARCO Department, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and Ministry of Science and Technology.

Similar meetings will be held across the country in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar, where zonal committees will gather to decide on Shawwal moon sightings in their respective areas.

The meeting will consider the sighting evidence, after which the Chairman of the Central Committee will make a formal announcement regarding Shawwal and Eid moon sightings, which will ultimately decide the date of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Although the Shawwal moon is expected to be visible in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today, including Saudi Arabia, some meteorologists and astronomers say otherwise. Saudi astronomer and member of the Crescent Committee, Abdullah Al-Khudiri, argues that astronomical calculations indicate that the moon will not be visible until Tuesday, April 9, which coincides with the 30th of Ramadan.

Al-Khudiri explains that today the moon will set 12 minutes before the sun, making it impossible to see it. Therefore, if the Shawwal moon is not visible in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries today, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday.

However, the PMD has given a ray of hope saying that the Shawwal moon will be visible for about fifty minutes in Pakistan on Tuesday. If the moon is not visible in the Gulf countries today but will be visible in Pakistan tomorrow, then Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the Gulf countries on Wednesday.
